Amy’s Nature Sticks
Amy Rose Craig
2022 (Pūpūkea, North Shore, Oʻahu)

Palm bracts, Madagascar palm, marine debris

This work was created during the 2022 Rebecca Louise Law residency and installation Awakening at the Honolulu Museum of Art. Developed through mentorship, conversation, and collaboration with Law, the piece draws from materials and methods explored in Awakening, while also reaching back to the artist’s earliest creative memories.

As a young child, Craig collected tiny natural objects with her mother during nature hikes, gluing them onto sticks as small gifts for family members. This work brings those early gestures into conversation with a dipped-stick installation, forming a collaboration between Craig’s first experiences of making and Law’s established body of work. The piece reflects continuity across time—between childhood and adulthood, memory and material, learning and mentorship.
